Solar collectors. Advantages and disadvantages of obtaining energy from photovoltaic panels

It takes approx. 4 minutes to read this article

Photovoltaic installations mean maximum benefits and satisfaction. Using clean solar energy to generate electricity to power your household is the best step to avoid unwanted increases in energy prices. Using surplus energy gives you the opportunity to receive energy when you need it most.

Photovoltaics, or generate solar savings

Using photovoltaic solutions means getting the best from the sun. This is not only a step towards being environmentally friendly, but also economical. Solar collectors allow you to save up to 60% of the energy needed to heat hot water, as well as a minimum of 30% of the energy used to heat the building

In addition, the collectors will prove useful especially in those buildings where the use of water is significant and generates huge consumption costs. Therefore, they will be useful in public buildings, sports facilities or residential houses. Solar collectors acquire natural solar energy, providing an independent energy resource to the building. Their efficiency is particularly high in spring and summer due to the higher intensity of solar radiation, thus allowing energy storage for less sunny seasons.

Solar collectors – how they work

Solar panels installed on the roofs of buildings derive energy from solar radiation. They work in such a way that the sunlight falling on their elements heats up the installation, and then the heat is transmitted further through a special absorber, up to the domestic hot water tank.

The absorber located in the photovoltaic system is usually made of copper and covered with a special enamel, which helps absorb and dissipate solar energy. The construction of the glass sheet, under which the absorber is hidden, not only facilitates the collection of energy, but also protects it from damage. In addition, it largely blocks the reflection of solar rays from its surface

These are the elements of the upper layer of the solar collector, it is also worth paying attention to the lower part of the panel – in most installations the bottom of the structure is protected against energy losses with special mineral wool. This allows for maximum energy storage

Advantages of using solar panels

The advantages of using photovoltaic technology on the roofs of buildings or in free-standing form – are invaluable. The results of using this solution can be summed up in 5 main benefits. These include:

– saving
,- environmental friendliness,
– storage of energy surplus resources,

resignation from other sources of electricity,
– return of investment after even 7 years.

Disadvantages of using solar collectors

Comfort of use, environmental friendliness and huge savings – it would seem that using solar collectors to acquire and store energy has no drawbacks. However, as with everything, there are two sides to the coin.

First, as pointed out by many experts dealing with photovoltaic installations, it should be remembered that it is important to choose the number of solar panels to the capacity of the hot water tank. The demand for hot water also matters. Failure to fully utilize the power of the solar panel results in excessively high temperatures on the solar panel itself. This leads to degradation of the solar fluid – when the collector is unable to transfer heat, it overheats.

Another disadvantage is the price. It is estimated that the cost of installing solar collectors ranges from several to even over a dozen thousand zlotys. Even if the investment pays for itself after a few years, initially it requires considerable financial outlays. However, if we want to focus on ecology, savings and independence, the decision to install solar collectors will be a good solution.
